Why so complex UI? Because that's what the designer (as well as the end users) wants. ?
@thedan84 It is certainly different from the original trilogy1 or from Episode VII. It had this twist towards a love letter to Carrie Fisher in addition to making the story go forward and telling what happened to Luke, so maybe that's why you found it puzzling.
