Now that I am on vacation my internal calendar has gone crazy. For some reason I seem to think that every day is Friday.
Now I can also admit that I really needed this vacation. Looking back to the past few months I can clearly see some symptoms of burnout. Now I need to just relax and enjoy my time away from work.
@larand We don’t own this house, but yeah… Nevertheless, we managed to cope without a car for quite a long time.1 The public transport here works pretty well, and we have lived near a stop pretty much always. Now that we moved a bit further away from the stops in November and there was a major shake-up in the public transport routes and scheduled in this area, the need for a car became big enough.
Many buy their first car when they get their first child. Our firstborn is almost 12.
Today’s test drive (Opel Zafira) was a lot better than yesterday. The car was newer (2011 vs. 2009), it had been driven more (120,000 km vs. 9,500 km), and it had manual transmission while yesterday’s car had automatic.
Based on the driving experience and the knowledge that there aren’t many 7-seaters available within the budget constraint we are having, we decided to buy this car. So, now I am officially owning my first car. Does that make me an adult now?

Buying a (used) car is damn hard. Due to the constraints in both budget and the size of the car there are not that many viable options out there. And of those few are sold within the reasonable reach of public transport1 only a handful are actually worth checking out.
Today I went to test drive one car (a 2009 Citroen Grand C4). It was… an unpleasant experience. While it had some nice things, the overall feeling was not what I wanted. Tomorrow I will go test drive another car, I hope that will be a nicer experience.
That is, one doesn’t need to spend over an hour going there.

While I enjoyed the gigs I saw in Tuska last Saturday I still feel like I missed a few awesome bands I would have liked to see. Obviously, having only a one-day ticket kind of forced me to miss many of those bands. Until yesterday I was completely unfamiliar with a band called Galatic Empire [itunes.apple.com] that were in Tuska on Saturday. Unfortunately I missed their gig simply because I came to the festival area an hour after their gig had ended.
About that band… It’s a kind of a joke, but they do have done great job adapting the original compositions to the style.
