Yep. That has been said over and over again in the news.

Finland has a rare visitor at the moment: https://yle.fi/news/3-12542585

Yeah, those who really want to leave a comment would most likely be prepared to pay, but all trolls and other cheap-shots would be put off by that cost.

Then again, I host my site on a service that does not allow commercial stuff (no ads or anything that would bring me money), which is a nice thing on itself in my opinion.

That is true. But as I am not active on the common social media platforms and my blog does not have comments section, getting that feedback to me might be a hurdle in itself. šŸ˜†

Now that I think of the different Git ā€platformsā€ that I have used during my software developer tenure, they all have had their annoyances and cool things. I would say that none of them is a perfect match to my taste.

And what annoys me the most about GitHub is that for a lot of people it is synonymous to Git itself. That then causes some confusion… šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚

Maybe I should try to find time to write down my notes of those different alternatives I have used to a (rant-ish) blog post. I just wonder how many would actually be interested to read that… šŸ¤”

Let’s see. It could be fun. šŸ˜†

I find many of their (design) choices to be slightly irritating, and as those add up the overall impression I have of the service is not that great. There are a bunch of cool things as well (for example Actions that can use more than one configuration file unlike Gitlab CI or Azure DevOps’ Pipelines), but those small irritating things just keep on rubbing me the wrong way.

I would like to be able to close all those rings, as that would mean that I am active for real. Maybe one day I will be able to do that.

Git1, but not with GitHub. The issue is not with Git itself but the way GitHub adds things on top of the tool, that just feels wrong.

  1. Mostly. I have a couple of Subversion and Mercurial repositories as well, but for work we always use Git.

The thing is that I believe the Move ring (active calories) should encourage one to move around more during the day. Setting it to a lower goal sounds like cheating to me as that would allow one to close that ring without doing anything. That’s why I have opted to have the possibility to have that ring incomplete on some days. I seems to be able to close it on most days.

The others, Exercise and Stand… I use the default 30 minutes for Exercise, and I might not get that closed every day. The same reason as for the Move ring applies here. The Stand ring is another story, it is very rare that I don’t get that closed. On those days I am most likely so sick that I just stay in bed.
