We have had ”a tradition”1 to visit Stockholm every summer. This year, due to the COVID-19 shenanigans and Sweden having worse situation than Finland, we didn’t go there. Instead, we opted to go to Mariehamn, the capital of the Åland islands2. It is a lovely small town, worth visiting (on a lovely summer day like today) if you have a chance.
We have done it in two years in a row, hence it is already a tradition.
While Åland islands are an autonomous part of Finland, they are closer to Sweden than to the Finnish mainland. Also, the official language of the islands is Swedish. Funky, isn’t it?
